U.S. iPhone carrier AT&T releases solid Q1 results

attU.S. wireless carrier AT&T reported strong first-quarter results, up 22% in earnings. The carrier added 1.3 million customers net despite the poor economy plaguing the U.S.

The exclusive retailer of Apple’s iPhone, AT&T sales were up 18% (US$11.8 billion) and closed the first quarter with 71.4 million mobile users. Some Wall Street analysts, however, were expecting the company to add as many as 1.5 million subscribers versus the reported 1.3 million.  MoCoNews reports that AT&T said on its earnings call that iPhone numbers remain largely the same in that 40% of people that purchase an iPhone from AT&T are new subscribers.
