Apple’s Q2 all rosy: iPhone 2.0 in June, unlocked phones planned
Apple announced its Q2 financial results today. The company claims that its second quarter was the most profitable in the company’s history. Profits rose over 36% for a total of US$1.05 billion, on sales of US$7.51 billion for the three month period.
Some notes from the Q2 financial announcment include:
- 1,703,000 iPhones sold, US$378 million
- More than 200,000 people downloaded the iPhone SDK
- More than a third of Fortune 500 companies and 400 higher education institutions have applied for iPhone developer status
- iPhone 2.0 coming in “late June” and will be free for users
- International carriers of the iPhone are able to freely price the device as they see fit
- Apple’s goals include distribution of unlocked iPhones, and making the device available throughout Europe and Asia
One final note, Apple declined to comment on “unreleased products” when asked if the 2G iPhone would still be available after the release of the 3G model.
