RIM’s 3G BlackBerry stalled because of 3G iPhone launch
Sources over at Fortune are claiming that the release date for Research In Motion’s highly anticipated 3G BlackBerry, rumored to be called Meteor, has been pushed out due to Apple’s upcoming release of its 3G iPhone. The Meteor, also dubbed the BlackBerry 9000, will offer faster 3G connectivity and a redesigned UI.
Speculation indicates that RIM has moved the release of the Meteor to August of this year to allow the buzz to die down from the assumed June launch of 3G iPhone. Many analysts believe June 27 will be the launch date of the 3G iPhone, the one-year anniversary of the original iPhone, though others are predicting its launch at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9th.
AT&T and RIM both declined comment on the subject.
